Hair 101 with Fort Mill hairstylists
This is a blog excerpt from by Erin Pratt of Simply Carolina Ivory, where you can read the full post.
Have you ever wondered what type of products our hairstylists use on their own hair? I mean, what are their go to products? Have you ever wondered how they make our hair look like a million bucks and why some of us (cough cough…me) can’t duplicate it once we leave the salon? Well, now is your chance to get the scoop.
I had the pleasure of getting 5 Fort Mill hairstylists to tell me their secrets! They shared with me their favorite products, what they use on themselves, and tips and tricks for us to get that “Ta-Da” hair. I hope you enjoy this post just as much as I did writing it. So, as promised….please meet Amy, Colleen, Elisa, Monique, and Tiffany!
AMY ELLISON FINLEY Amy Ellison Finley has been in the hair industry for 16 years, a stylist for 13 years. She specializes in color, but does it all! Amy works at the Parlour On Main, in Fort Mill. PRODUCTS & TIPS Amy’s favorite hair products are Redken One United Multi-Benefit Treatment Spray, Amika Per Up Dry Shampoo, and Amika Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray. Amy uses the Redken One United Multi-Benefit Treatment Spray on every client. This spray offers 2 benefits, including detangling, heat protectant, and shine. Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo is perfect for people who don’t wash their hair everyday. This dry shampoo doesn’t leave your hair sticky/tacky and gives you great volume! Amy uses this product on her own hair. She sprays down the part, around her hairline and random sections of her hair. She rubs the spray with her fingers and brushes. Instant fresh hair! Amika Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray is Amy’s go to product. Amy likes this texture spray so much that she no longer uses hairspray on herself! Amy uses this product by lifting up sections of her hair and sprays it at the base/root to give her hair some lift. When Amy curls her hair, she will spray her hair to get that textured tousled look (beach waves). Amy has fine hair so this product is one of her favorites! Amika Velveteen Smoothing Balm is great for smoothing hair. Thin, thick, short, long, the balm works great on all hair types. It isn’t very heavy so it works great on finer hair too. If you have finer hair, Amy suggests not placing the balm directly on the roots. You will want your hair to be damp when using the balm. Rough dry 80% of your hair and then section your hair to finish blow drying. Once you are done blow drying, you will want to use a brush to smooth out your hair. If you want to add more volume to your hair, Amy recommends the Amika Plus Size Volume & Body Mousse. If you have fine hair, this product will do wonders for your hair! The mousse will provide a nice hold without being tacky or too stiff. You apply the mousse to damp hair and do a rough dry on 80% of your hair. You will want to finish blow drying your hair in sections and set your hair with the cool button on your hair dryer. To maximum your volume, blow dry your hair/part to the opposite side. All products linked in this post can be purchased from Amy, Sephora, or Ulta. Products not linked can be purchased from Amy.
