Watercolor beginners, are you ready to immerse yourself in a four-week journey of watercolor painting? Now is your chance!
Local Artist Martha Mabe is leading this four-week course (Feb. 16, Feb. 23, March 2, and March 9) designed to give beginners a solid foundation in watercolor painting. Each session builds upon the previous one, allowing students to progressively develop their skills, confidence, and understanding of the medium. You'll explore essential techniques, learn about the materials and how to use them effectively, and create beautiful pieces of art by the end of the course.
What to Expect:
Week 1: Introduction to watercolor materials and tools. Learn proper setup, basic brush techniques, and simple washes to create texture and depth. By the end of this session, create a simple landscape or abstract piece using washes.
Week 2: Expanding on techniques with color mixing and layering. Explore transparency, gradients, and creating harmonious palettes. Students will complete a vibrant color study or small floral painting.
Week 3: Applying skills to create small compositions. Focus on detail work, shadows, and highlights to bring your artwork to life. This session will result in a detailed still-life or nature-inspired piece.
Week 4: Final project: Create a completed watercolor piece that showcases the techniques and concepts you've learned throughout the course.
A detailed materials list will be provided before the course begins. By the end of each session, students will complete a unique piece of artwork while building their confidence and skills in this expressive medium.
